Alistair Benn MHH International CEO & Founder

I founded MHH International 16 years ago in answer to a call from a gentleman in Kenya. We quickly discovered the need to import cars to many countries. However, UK car importers had the reputation for being untrustworthy and unreliable. I wanted to fix that and set out to make MHH the gold standard for car importing. Since then we have exported over 6,000 cars to 32 countries. It’s been an incredible journey and I feel like we’re still only getting started!

Trust earnt via consistently delivering

If you think about it, all our clients are trusting us even though they’ll probably never meet us. That is a big responsibility for which we’re very grateful. We know this kind of trust can only be earnt via consistently delivering a first class experience to all our customers. I love that challenge and I get great satisfaction from taking someone’s headache away and turning into their dream scenario. Frictionless is the aim. A tall order for a complex process. But I believe in aiming high and making it happen.

Expertise where it’s needed

Whilst we’re based in the UK, many clients use our local agents to manage the import when it reaches their shores. 12 destinations have a clearing agent and storage facilities to take care of our clients’ needs. In the UK we have specific trade teams and retail teams to give our clients the best expertise for their cars. In a service based business, we are always looking for ways to make the customer’s experience better.

New Office opened in Belfast

A big highlight for this year has been the opening of our Belfast office. With it come a new brand too. We have launched VATQualifycar.com as a trading name of MHH International. The office is headed up by Steven MaGowan who has joined us with a wealth of car experience in Northern Ireland. Their expertise is focussed on serving the EU markets with VAT Free cars from the UK.

Embracing Automation

Behind the scenes, we’ve worked hard to transform our processes and take advantage of all that automation has to offer. The last 12 months has seen a huge evolution to help our team be more efficient and create a better experience for our clients. What’s exciting is, the more I learn, the more I can see opportunities for us to improve in all aspects of our business. The more we advance, the more we can smooth the client’s journey and our internal operations too.

Close to International Trade Policy

To keep abreast of the evolving best practices for global trade, we’re also members of the Chartered Institute for Export & International Trade and The British Exporters Association. This keeps us close to the changes in policies and requirements across the world and helps us to benefit from the import expertise from a wide range of industries.

International Business of the Year finalist

I’m really proud of the team as we’ve recently become a finalist in the Surrey business awards against some incredible companies. This is a real accomplishment in a very competitive peer group of companies who span a multitude of industries. This feels like a significant milestone in turning around an industry from a low reputation to being recognised for delivering the gold standard. We’ll definitely be celebrating at the awards in November, the end of a record-breaking year for us.

A Record Breaking Year Ahead

Looking ahead to the next 12 months, we can see so many opportunities to improve. I’m excited to see how different we will be again in just a year’s time as we’re on track to break so many records and improve the service we deliver for every one of our clients.

Final Comment

I wanted to thank our incredible team, our awesome clients who put their trust into us every day (from several thousand miles away). We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve you and really look forward to improving the standards of car import across the globe.
