With a development programme that has continually enhanced and upgraded the INEOS Grenadier since its launch, 2026 reveals the British brand’s most complete and accomplished model yet; one that will appeal to a wide range of users. This latest version is easier to drive with the added bonus of being able to swiftly switch off (perfectly legally) the irritating Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) alerts that European car makers are obliged by Euro-decree to fit as standard.

As it enters its third full year of production, INEOS Automotive has significantly enhanced this award-winning 4X4. For the 2026 model year, the company’s engineers have enhanced not only the everyday usability and enjoyment of the Grenadier station wagon (Long Wheel Base) but also the very able Quartermaster pick-up variant, whilst still maintaining their class-leading capabilities, performance and individual personality.

INEOS Grenadier Improvements

The most significant change is to the vehicle’s steering setup that results in a positive evolution of its on-road dynamic driving character, often a bugbear for essentially dedicated off-road vehicles. A new steering box features a variable ratio for the first time. This plus a lower ratio around the central steering position results in a tighter, firmer feel to deliver more precision and greater responsiveness on and off-road.

The benefit here is that the change increases confidence in high-speed straight-line driving, lane changing and overtaking, as well as more assured and purposeful dynamic handling on sweeping first and second class metalled roads. The ratio at each end of the steering gear remains unchanged, ensuring the Grenadier, in both station wagon and Quartermaster pick-up guises, retains its peerless off-road capability and performance.

Further steering improvements have resulted in a reduction in the turning circle by around five percent apparently. Extending the steering stops means the 2026 vehicle is more manoeuvrable on and off-road, and easier to use in town and on tight off-road trails.

The INEOS Grenadier also benefits from upgraded climate control components to improve the performance and predictability of heating and cooling within the cabin, making it an even more comfortable place to spend time.

Other changes include modifications to the headlights, which now come with double-ring daytime running lights. There’s a new wheel design, carried over from the limited-run ‘1924 Edition’, now available on the standard car. Improved tyre options are also available.

On The Inside

Inside, a carpeted interior is available in place of the standard plastic and rubber flooring, while a new frameless rear-view mirror contains a camera for the driver-monitoring system. As suggested, the ADAS features have been upgraded where required to meet the latest regulations. It’s part of the compulsory safety kit that is now required on all new cars in Europe, which also includes an over-speed warning and lane assist. Fortunately, the Grenadier’s systems aren’t as intrusive as some, while a permanent on-screen shortcut means it’s easy to deactivate the speed-limit (‘Intelligent Speed Assist’) warning.

Climb up inside the Grenadier and find very supportive and heated ‘Recaro’ seats. The interior is very well appointed with the tech you’d expect. Climate controls are built into a panel on the centre console and switches for off-road use are found on an overhead panel. Another brilliant aspect is that the driving position is alpine high. Peer down into the cabins of so-called large SUVs when overtaking; they seem small by comparison. Visibility is excellent and the sense of space is heightened by the removable ‘safari’ windows fitted as standard on ‘Fieldmaster’ models,  a variant which is more tuned for the tarmac road.

The Grenadier’s infotainment system, which, like the engine, is from from prestige car maker BMW and uses a 12.3 inch touchscreen. Directly in front of the driver is a small display that shows various warning lights. The central display offers up fuel level, which gear is in use, engine temperature and road speed, as well as all the usual multimedia functions.

Black Edition

The new and premium range-topping Black Edition is a distinctive addition to the Grenadier line-up for this year, enhancing customers’ choice of pre-configured models and offers high spec at great value. Based on the well-equipped ‘Fieldmaster’ trim, the Black Edition is also available as both a station wagon and Quartermaster pick-up.

This new member of the Grenadier family is identifiable by a series of new and exclusive all-black aesthetic body and trim finishes, which complement the sole ‘Inky Black’ paint option. Gloss black 18 inch alloys, a Dark Exterior Pack (black grille, dark skid-plates, privacy glass and lockable spare wheel storage box) complete the look from outside, while a dark interior headlining and carpet flooring set the scene inside.

Driving

This is a surprise. There’s nothing agricultural about this car at all. As with previous versions, there’s a choice of three litre six-cylinder petrol or diesel engines, all sourced from reliable BMW and driving through a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. These engines all deliver excellent performance in such a large car. The diesel may be preferred because there’s more torque to the power delivery, plus the fact that, for a big beast, economy from this engine isn’t bad.

Whichever engine is chosen, they are great performers and give the Grenadier a surprising turn of speed, which is made easier to control by the new steering. The lane-assist electronics help here, too, because rather than jerking the steering wheel in your hand to keep you in line, the system gently applies the brakes to steer you back in the right direction, if that suits your driving style.

Meanwhile, select off-road mode and things change. All of these fancy electronics, including the parking sensors, are deactivated, so you can hit the rough terrain hands-on without any electronic interference. The Grenadier really is astonishing off road, no matter how tough the going, It is so good in fact that in testing, there was often no need to engage the three differential locks to stay on the move. That’s real off-road prowess.
